Handbrake problem

  Mk2 Ph2 1.2
Just pulled the handbrake on only for it to pull alot further than it should, its pulled out of where it sits at one side so it's loose, i guess the cables snapped?

I've just done something similar but it's not light enough to check - the handbrake is still working though, but the lever seems quite weak - is the cable in two parts or something?

One short piece from the back of the actual handbrake lever to under the car to a balancer bar where the two that go to the back wheel attach. Remove the exhaust centre section headshield and you'll be able to see said bar and cables.

They're self adjusting (apparently), hold the brake pedal down and operate the handbrake a few times and they should self adjust. Otherwise you can tighten them up on the balencer plate with a nut but it'll probably make them drag a bit tbh.

I've just phoned Eurocarparts up and they said although they list them on the website, they dont actually do them as there's about six different lengths and so what I have to do is go to the main dealers after I've took the cable off and they'd match it up - wtf?

Has anyone got any suggestions or can tell me where I can get one from, the dealers sounds quite expensive....

Just phoned up Renault and they want £23 for one, which isn't bad - I expected a lot more tbh.
