Handbreak - HUGE travel!

  Black-Gold 182
Hi all,

I fitted performance discs and shoes to my Clio a couple of weeks back, but I've noticed that my handbreak has to be pulled almost vertically to fully engage the brakes. Is this normal? I'm guessing probably not, but how do you adjust the rear brake travel on the handbrake?

I guess it should be a nut adjustment quite close to the HB mechanism. Usually it's part of the machanism itself. It can't be a big job anyway. How are the brakes in general? I have an interest in uprated stoppers so I'd be interested to hear more detail :)

Generally they're ok - still bedding them in at the moment - only do shortish distances to and from work.

Got a set of EBC grooved discs and Mintex performance pads. £220 for the set (including rear bearings). Guy in Chesterfield;

I do have a bit of rumble through the pads when the discs are cold (because the discs are grooved I'm assuming), but as soon as I warm them up it soon dissapears.

Well worth the investment though - oh, and they produce less dust so your alloys stay cleaner for longer :)

You have to take of a metal plate under the car to get to the handbrake,
stupid french cars!

Oh! Grrr.... why don't Haynes do a manual for the 182!!! GRRRRR!!!!

So do we get to add that to the ever growing list of silly things the French do?

I did my mark 1 handbrake at the weekend.

You need a ramp really otherwise it makes it impossible.

You need to undo the four socket shaped screws. However they are rounded at the top, so be careful.

Drop the heatshield and with a 13mm spanner undo the first lock bolt, then tighten the handbrake bolt.

Great fun.

Took 15-20 mins.
