Has my ADSL speed been fixed ?

  Golf Mk6 Oil Burner
About 2 months ago the speed of my ADSL dropped to 1mb. Its an 8mb service by Orange and i was getting around 2mb - 2.5mb all the time prior to this. BTW - I am a fair distance from the exchange

I now have ...

ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 12.6
Attenuation (dB) : 52.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 2656
ADSL status : Connected [0]

Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 1152 288

This looks like its been fixed to me as it never fluctuates at all, stays fixed at 1152 / 288 all the time which is effectively a 1mb line.

Any ideas ? I would like some ammo before i ring them thats all.

Well there are SLA guidelines to customers, but they are pretty poor, from memory they HAVE to provide you with something like 512kbps, but in practice anything less than 1000kbps/2000kbps on an (R)ADSL line is pretty poor.

The biggest issues are distance from the exchange, obviously the real distance is that which the line takes, not the straight line distance. Anything over 5km and you're pretty shafted.

http://www.dslzoneuk.net/ - most accurate speedtest i've used, good tools too.

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/ - good for looking up your exchange status, if its Amber/Red then it means it's overloaded, will cause your issues. Usually BT fix this in a few weeks.

http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/ - good forum, check out your ISP forum and see if other users are having the same issues. Useful answers most of the time.

Cheers for the links!! Would seem a lot of people are in the same boat, some have even gone from getting 6.0mb to 512k !
