Have my rear dampers gone?

dk

I was driving along normally today and i keep getting a rattle ever now and again from the suspension area above my rear wheels, its quite loud inside and i was wondering if this was my dampers knackered and i need to book it in please? Its a metalic sounding rattle i think.

Its not all the time, just sometimes, but if it is making a noise and i go over a bump it stops which is why i think its something to do with that side of things?

many thanks in advance to anyone able to help.

Maybe a bolt comming loose the shock usually leaks oil and fails so a failure is easy to see and you'll feel the ride being sloppy.

ok, not seen any oil and the ride and handling are no different, will double check the rear seat but it hasn't been moved for a while.

might just take it to renault and see what they say.

thanks guys

I think you'd know if it was the shocks, when they went on my 172 the car felt like it wanted to send me backwards into a ditch at every opportunity :S

oh right, can't be that then, as the car feels normal it is confusing me but also pleasing me as it can't be that bad if it doesn't feel any better and i drove hom for 2 hours yesterday with the only thing telling me, was the noise it was making, the other confusing part is that it happens both sides of the car alternately?

will go and double check the seat is positioned right to rule that out.

i find my rear seats rattle quite bad - get someone to sit in the back seat and see if it stops (never does it when my son is in the back) - think its the brackets are a little loose due to poor manufacture, not a lot you could do about it - when mine gets bad I unclip the back seats and clip them back again and seems to stop the rattle for a while

It's pretty obvious when they go, the damper body will be soaked in oil and everytime you hit a pot hole the wheel just gets smacked up to the bump stop making a nasty noise.

the rear headrests rattle really badly at times.
just make sure there down.

thanks guys, i unclipped the rears seats and put them back again and drove 150 miles today and it hasn't made the noise, not sure it was the seats though as they weren't loose when i tried them.

I think it might have been some debri from the trackday that found its way through the plastic of the whel arch and was rattling around but has now stopped for some reason, either that or the car was aching from the trackday and was telling me it wanted a rest!

Lager, my brother had the rattling boot lock, had it replaced by renault a couple of times but it kept coming back!
