Head Gasket blown - what causes this?

  Racing Blue 182
The Gfs mini stopped working last night and she had to get towed by the AA.

The AA man said it was the head gasket that had blown...what causes this? is it a big and expensive job?

If it's an old A series engine it happens.... Really easy job to do on them :)

Mine went on my old mini. As said its really easy to do on the old mini engines. I got someone i knew to do it for about 75 quid i think, apparently its the easiest engine to change the head gasket on. Mine went because of a water leak causing the engine to overheat thus burning through the gasket

Not sure on the cause. It could be down to low oil or water levels causing the head to warp slightly or rapid degradation of the gasket material.

I'd get a second opinion TBH. The engine is known for it's tecnical spec' but I didn't think they were unreliable.

thats what they get for using crysler lumps lol..... seem unusual.. it might not be the head gasket. there have been cases on here where the AA have said the head gasket has gone and it hadn't when they got it to a garage.. the usual AA cop out if you ask me....
