Head Unit and Stalk Adapter Questions

Good Morning Everyone,

I know there are hundreds of threads on this and I apologise if its been asked so many times (I have used the search function!).
Basically at the moment I have the standard head unit in my 2005 182 Cup but would like to get a new Alpine unit. Is there an adapter which will keep my stalk controls working and will I have to remove the dash?
The reason I ask is because I don't fancy taking the dash out and would like to keep the controls by the steering wheel as they are useful.
Thanks in advance.

There is an adaptor set comprising of a basic control module and individual interfaces for most sets in the Alpine range.

You will need to remove the dash top, but its really very simple.

Ok thanks Brian. I have seen posts on here about pre-2005 clios being the only ones with adapters. Is there a guide on how to remove the dash?

The adaptor for 2005+ Clios is circa £100 James and I think CarAudioDirect are the only place that do it from memory.
I posted up about this some time ago as Renault (for some reason) changed the wiring specification in the 2005 onwards Clios, meaning that all the readily available adaptors would nolonger work.

Ah ok thanks mate. Knew there was something about the 2005+ ones as I remember a post about it. The £100 is a lot of money for an adapter, makes me think its not worth the hassle to change it as I have managed 2 years with it so far.
Thanks Brian and Daz :)

No problems James.
I have just managed to source a second hand one which has set me back £40 as there is no way I was prepared to pay £100 for the privilege of steering controls!

How come the dash has to be removed on 2005+ cars? on my old 172 I just plugged to box of tricks in behind the stereo to get full steering controls and dash display on my alpine hu.

They changed their wiring specification from 2005 onwards:

Nice one Ollie :)

James, I do not believe that the adaptor I am referring to requires the dash removing for installation. However, as it will hopefully arrive in the next couple of days I will post back up to confirm once fitted.

^^^ You don't need to remove your dash. The box just sits behind the head unit (there is a bit of space behind there). Dash out only for tweeters. The stalk adaptop / display unit etc all wire up to go into the HU so all you need is there.

Cheers
O.

James, my adapator is now fitted and fully functional. The dash does not need removing as Ollie said above. The unit just slots in (the limited space) behind the headunit. It allows full function of the steering controls and on the head up display it displays the HU brand, in my case Sony.

Any further info required just get back to me :)
