Head unit or speakers?

Just wondering...

I'm sick of the rubbish sound quality from the standard Head Unit - Changer - Speaker set up in my Mk1 172, so am planning a basic upgrade.

Would it be wiser to upgrade the speakers for better ones and run off the standard HU, or replace the HU for a decent 4x52W one and run that through the standard speakers?

I know the ideal situation is replace both and then add amps, etc, but I just want a relatively quick and cheap fix for the time being...

theres no real compromise to be honest matey its no good having a pukka source unit with paper shite speakers nor good speakers with a shite source unit check caraudiosecurity.com with there prices you could surely afford to upgrade both at low cost

if you went for a semi decent alpine then i suppose even they can make a shite set of speakers sound passable

Well I'm planning on the Alpine 9853R with IPod adapter, so it should improve quality to a certain degree. Anyone recommend / not recommend this?

I will upgrade the speakers in time, but I'd rather just do one upgrade for now and if the HU is the bigger increase in quality, then I'll do that first.

EDIT: Maybe I won't need the IPod adapter, seems it's not compatible with the Nano...
