  CLIO WILLIAMS #0215

fitted new head unit in car and now the heater blower has stopped working. i still get heat thru the vents when the car is moving, but none of the three speeds actually work, i think it must be a loose connection but i cant see where these wires are???? and i cant see where i have moved them??? anyone help???

Ooh. I had this when I bought my valver. Mine started working again after having the blower out and the panel out. First things first is to check the fuse. Then check the panel . The light in mine doesnt work and I suspect a dry joint in the soldering, or the loose plug connection to the back of it.

To get this out you need to remove the stereo housing and then theres 2 screws securing the panel. You can then manouevre it out through where the stereo was. The "circuit board" just unclips from the back of the panel after youve removed the nobs.

If it isnt this then it will be either the multi-plug that plugs in to the rheostat on the blower or the blower itself. I had to replace the rheaostat anyway, since it would only woek on speeds 2 and 3. However I doubt that this is the problem in your case, as the highest speed would still work if the rheostat had gone.

Getting the blower out only took me 1/2 hour and that was having never worked on the car before.

My RT had this fault. All the same symptoms. It may be a coincidence about the stereo. I had a rusty fan connector. Its located next to wiper motor. Take off the wiper cowling and theres a connector located in the middle of the section where the fan sits. Switch your fan on and give this connector a wiggle. Mine came on, so I knew it was a dodgy connector. Take out the connector and it was part rusted part melted! Got a new one from a scrappy for a fiver. Awkward to solder the chunky wires and went off again a few months down the line and ended up having to solder properly.

If you get a torch, pop up the bonnet and flip up the panel where the jack is and crouch down and look along the channel you may be able to see the fan assembly and connector. You may be able to feel it with your hand and give it a wiggle. Dont do this with the fan switched on, dunno if its possible to trap your fingers but you dont wanna find out the hard way. Plus you dont wanna get any potential electric shock. Theres a big rheostat thing down there.

Best way to do it is to remover wiper cowling thing:

Flip the nut holders up on the end of the wiper, take off the nuts. Pull off wipers, you may have to turn them by hand to free them, dont worry the bolt part will stay put.

Look for the 3 ( i think its 3) torx screws, one either side and one in the middle, take them out and the cowling pulls off, the top edge along the window is clipped to the cars bulkhead, pull firmly but dont lose the clips. Careful with the rubber strip along bottom of window. Once off you should be able to see better.

Refitting is the reverse but make sure the rubber strip is seated correctly, you dont want loads of rain pouring down. I siliconed mine.
