Absolutely serious answer. If it is standard, do nothing mod-wise for about a month. Drive it and appreciate it for what it is. They are very very good.
Immediately, look at what its service status is, has it had the cambelt done on time, other fluids, filters and lubes. If in doubt (e.g. if bought from a generic trader) do it all again - e.g. they may used the wrong oil, overfilled/underfilled.
Once that's done, get a device called an RS Tuner, they can be bought from a company called Fastchip or available used on here from time to time.
They can be used as a diagnostic tool but more importantly, install the RON 98 (i.e. Super Unleaded fuel) map. This is not really a power map but simply beefs up the torque a bit and makes the power delivery more linear and apparently (I never had a problem on mine) improves cold starts.
Makes the car much more driveable and in my case improved fuel consumption by about 3 mpg.
After that, replace items as needed and enjoy the car. They are very difficul to get power from so leave it.
Cosmetically, wheels are as far as I would go. Follow that and you'll enjoy the car, it will prove to be reliable if it is a good one and you'll resell it easily when the time comes.
