Yeah insurance prices are a bummer, they are only just becoming less cringeworthy now that I have 3 yrs NCB (just age pushing it up now). Starting small and fun is a good thing, I was very fond of my little 106 1.1 . I'm not quite sure why people are saying stay away from price comparison sites, until this year they spat out good quotes for me, I tried going to Direct Line / Bell / Adrian Flux who couldn't beat them. This year I happen to be on a multi car policy that isn't through a comparison site though.
