~~ Help & Advise needed ~~

Really hoping someone has had this problem, or can suggest to me what it is :-

Coming home last night I noticed that when reaching 6,000revs I hear a rather strange noise. Its hard to describe it really. If i was to try and advise what it sounded like, it sounds like a noisy vibration or maybe a belt slipping a “sketchy” type of noise. (am i making sense?)

It only happens above 6,000revs.. it does it in all gears so I know its not the gear box. Just checked the air filter, there is nothing hiding in there. The only thing I can think of is the catalytic converter failing, like something has come loose?! Having said that when I bought the car I told it had a de-cat, however you never know when buying private.

Any ideas people? Maybe someone else has had this problem and can suggest what it could be.

many thanks

James.

you know... like mice

and its "advice" not "advise" ;)

You can advise someone but you give someone advice

Hi Rockport.

I am not qualified to give any advice but I will say thats I had a similar loose sounding noise on My Uno Turbo, twice. The first time it was nothing more than a simple rogue washer on the water bottle that was the culprit. On the second occasion it was a little more sinister , being just a loose bit of trim that knocked against the passenger door, sounded just like the knock you get when the big end bearings are failing. On both of these times it only happened at a certain amount of revs.

If you are unsure if you have a decat or not, just look underneath at the front end of the exhaust, a box shaped pipe = the cat, a straight pipe = de-cat.

Clio16vblack, give the guy a break huh?. Does it really matter if grammar is not correct, the guy needs help, thats what matters most.

Bill.

Thanks Bill,

ive just been out for a 2nd run, the noise is coming from the exhaust, im 80% sure of it.

As for the de-cat - cat suggestion... its still hard to say bill as i do have a box shape which would indicate a cat converter, however you can get de-cats that look just the same as a standard cat but with no filters. look-a-likes. So im still not sure.

its really anoying, im scared to push it hard incase im doing it damage. I think ill take it easy until my next service which is due in 3,000 miles. ill get BBPT to have a look at it.

unless anyone else has any ideas?!

P.S, sorry i didnt get to speak to you and your wife at the last meet, i was hoping we were all going to stick around longer then we did, hope to catch up soon m8.
