Help - Heating Fan Problems..

Basically my fan doesnt seem to kick in until 30mins after driving or just randomly, anyone else had something similar? Renualt were asking £50 just to find the problem .. cant get it to a garage today and its not easy to drive in these conditions unless I wind the window down and freeze my **** off!
