HELP ICE/electrical problems (essay warning)

right here it goes


i installed this lot today

(thanks to neil for selling it, it sounds great)
but the main power cable got very hot in half hour. i think i need a thicker cable

my electrics have been playing up for a couple of months and today i noticed that some wires connected to the batery have started to melt :banghead: what do i do about that?

the electrics playing up explained.

its got the usual wipers and heater problems but i know how to sort that.

when i have got the amps on and turn the lights/indicators/heater/put my foot on the brake every electrical thing dims or cuts out including the I.C.E.

and the cooling fans for the amps are on all the time so i discomected the main power.

what do i have to do before i scrap the heap its doing my head in

you might want to upgrade the big three. (wiring to the alt. and battery, etc) this will help the dimming problems.

How big is the main power cable? As a guide, for power up to 600rms, use 8awg or thicker. For power up to 1000rms, use 4 awg or thicker - etc etc

all this awg thickness confuses me as my power cable does not say but it is quite thick

for a start have you checked your voltage at the batt??

what size fuse you got on your power cable?? also the negative cable you have got looks alot thinner than the positive

Well its quite hard to tell from the pic tbh, as its all relative.

perhaps ask a retailer to take a look and tell you the thickness. or try to get old of the original owner.
Do you know the total power handling of the system? in rms?

thats 8 awg

the bigger amp is 300watts and the smaller one is a 150watt i dont know the rms

power cable has 3 fuses one at the bat and two near the amps

i might take it to sextons in town next week get them to have a look

id say that was 4awg looking at the earth cable next to it........your earth and power cables should be the same side.......

i'm a sparkie i can tell the difference between .75mm2 and 1mm2

just know the roughly size of the connectors the size of phono plugs just little things like that

been awhile as i left the car parked up at my old mans work place

main fuse is a 60
fuse to 150watt amp to sub is a 60
fuse to 300 watt amp to comps is a 30

yeah the earths been upgraded to mach the size of the power cable??

also they look very enclosed under the floor
