Best thing is a wireless router, plug the broadband connection into that and then you can plug the desktop into the router and then use the laptop wirelessly.

I suggest that also.. Buy a ADSL Router with WIRELESS/SWITCH/FIREWALL

Phone line into router... hardwire from router to PC and then wireless for laptop.. but if you want you can also buy a wireless card for your PC but i dont i dont think you should..

Few things that would work for you from here i am using a linksys one an it works a treat, but i think i prefered my old netgear...

The netgear DG834GT seems to be a very good router i have it connected to my main computer, it has built in firewall and modem etc. I paid about 100 quid for the router and a usb wireless adapter. I have another comp upstairs and my sisters laptop connected at the same time and also my xbox/ps2 and psp and it works a treat havent had any problems yet and was very easy to install. Oh ive had it just over 6 months without probs and thats a miracle considering im on aol!!!

Encryption, WEP or WPA and then strap it down to only your MAC addresses.

Limit it so that it only accepts certain MAC addresses and doesn't broadcast the ESSID. Also add a security level (eg. WEP WPA) and also change the password on your router.

^ my router came with a WEP, which is basically a password, specific for that router. you should get a wep (password) too with your router, itll ask for it when you set it up on the wireless connection, either on the laptop or 2nd desktop

  nothing, blown up!
TBA you cant go wrong with any one really, D-link are some of the best all in ones with firewalls and they are very cheap at scan.co.uk

MAC address is the unique address that your network card has thus only letting you onto the router. As said, WEP and WPA are both like strong passwords that are needed to access your router.
