HELP PLEASE

hi im carl and im new.

basically im after my first car and a clio has popped up close to where i live.

it is a 1999 1.2 rn with 96k on the clock and one owner from new.

the seller is looking only 650 quid which i feel makes it a bargain.

so far i have seen that clios suffer from leaky sunroofs and dodgy bonnet catches but havent really found out much else and was hoping you could help.

i was hoping you would be able to tell me the common faults that clios have and do you view the mileage as being an issue?

many thanks for your replies in advance.

Cheers

Check all of the paperwork, cambelt change etc etc.

Hpi it up to make sure it's not recorded, cat d write off etc. Check for any signs of damage to it/bodged up repairs it may have.

  Clio MK2 (1.2)
Sunroof Easy to sort out, just re-seal it,
The bonnet should have had a call back from Renault if im correct to be fixed free of charge.

he said about not getting the service light off but this i believe might just need reset.

it has 5 years service history also after that it was done annually by a local mechanic.

any other faults i should be aware of when viewing?

and thanks for the replies.

Check for a pile of bills, old mots & that sort of thing. If he can't provide things i'd think about leaving it. Check the gearbox & clutch out, it may need one or both soon.

You MUST get it hpi'd though.

Check that it goes into each gear ok & that it doesn't pop out of gear, listen out for crunching noises etc.

For the clutch, the easiest way is to do 30mph in top gear, but your foot down & see what happens. If the revs shoot up it's slipping. Check the biting point out too, listen out for sort of clunking noise when you put the clutch down (when the car is parked with the engine running) as that'll mean that the thrust race bearing is naffed.
