help please

hi i have owned my 16v for about 2 weeks now,its in mint condition with full service history,its done 100,000 miles now its k 1993,when i first start it,it sounds really rough and tappy but give it a couple of mins and let it warm up and it sounds fine,should i be worried?is this bad?should i think about an engine rebuild?i love this car and i want to own it for quite a while and do plenty of mods to it,can any1 help? thanks!!

i think all valvers have a bit of tappet noise on start up while the oil gets round i wouldnt worry about it

ok cheers,my power stearing is really noisy is that normal?,it seems to work ok,the only other problem i have is the speedo needle is really wobbly under 40,over 40 it is fine,will buying a new cable solve this do u think? thanks!

power steering is always noisy on the buggers! where u from mate?

yeh power steerin always noisy nearly all speedos wobble like that its the cable cos it gets kinks in it id just live with it mine does it

when driving over slight bumps in the road i get a clonking/knocking sound from it seems the top area of the shock(damper) drivers side only! any ideas anyone any info is a great help,i need a haynes manual.my halfords is out of stock at the moment! thanks!!

maybe one of your dampers is shagged, have it checked

one of mine turned out to be and i only knew about it when i had a new kit fitted, it was proper shagged

with regards to tappets, they all seem to be noisy at start up, as long as it disappears in a minute or so then its fine

read my thread about Mobil 1 in general discussion, you may want to try it, or at least top up with it and see what you think, with its 0W rating it will circulate very fast and your tappets shouldnt make any noise with that in, if they do it will only be for a few seconds

other than that Wynns do a hydraulic tappet additive which you should be able to get from most halfords
