HELP - URGENT - Girlfriend is smoking!!

Not in a good valetines way but also not in a fix for free bad tabaco habit!!

The problems with the girlfriends 1.8 RT. Im stuck up in Liecester so have no tools, no ramps, not even a trolly jack!! The cat itself is producing white smoke which is comming out from under the car (not through and out the back of the exhurst). Think there is slight oil leek from the engine but wouldnt that produce blue smoke if it was oil burning on the cat? The cat works fine as its MOT is 6 days old! Takes about 5 mins to start smoking from cold?

Any ideas or has someone round here got some ramps or something I could borrow for the afternoon?

blue normally = oil, white is normally water related, could be headgasket on its way, is it using any water ? as for coming out from under rather than behind exhaust could be holed or a dodgy gasket somewhere but doubtful

Its not using water. It looks like its comming from the cat i.e. being produced at the cat rather than somthing engine related comming out through the cat but, without being able to get under the car its a trickey job to see anything! All the smoke is from the cat not the exhaust? Would it run right if the head gasket was gone?

soz i took so long to reply computer probs, it would still run with the head gasket gone depending on how badly its gone but seems strange you arent using water

Bit of an unlikely long shot ......brake fluid also burns with white smoke! I would image also that PS fluid would probably do the same. Possibly a fine spray onto a hot manifold?

Its not p/s. The brakes seem fine compared to my valver so I think they must be ok.

Can the Cat itself produce smoke if the insides are knackered? Seem to be from the cat not thr car?

Thought for a minute she was smoking cancer weeds or coffin nails!!

Hope there arent too many smokers here - waste of money and not good for health either.
