Help with Products

  197 Cup (JAWS)
Hi,

I have recently changed from my 182 in RB to my 197 Glacier White and when it comes to cleaning you will know its a nightmare.

I was given a web address in which we are given a discount on but I want a list of the very best products to buy, including everything from wheels to wax, clay bars, mits etc.

Also if there is a guide to display the steps to doing a successful wash and wax.......

Could someone provide me with assistance in selecting the right products.

The address I was given is: http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/

The best products would depend on who you are talking to, as everyone has their own opinions. For the very "best" wax you are talking thousands of pounds, but looks wise there will be little difference to a £50 wax.

My method and favorite products are as follows:

Wash with 2BM using Halfords mitts, and Grit Guard.
Dry majority of panels with sonus towel and door and boot jambs with an old Meguiars Water magnet. Last Touch as drying aid.
Clay with CYC Poly Clay.
Polishing using Menzerna Intensive polish and Final Finish.
Seal using 4 layers of Zaino Z-5 and then 4 layers of Z-2, topped up with Zaino Z-8 on a bi-weekly basis.

Rich has a good guide somewhere, although he'll probably be on later to add his bit and he can give you more info on its whereabouts.

I can recommend the Megs prof detailer range of products for general cleaning, such as Shampoo Plus, Last Touch, All Purpose Cleaner (APC), Safe Degreser, glass cleaner etc. They come in gallon containers and are concentrated, so dilute with water. Although initial outlay will be a bit more than buying 500ml containers of the products, they will last you for ages and work out a LOT cheaper in the long run.

Another must, Sonus Der Wonder drying towels, best i've tried.

The guide is in the members only section so don't think he will be able to view it.

Zaino would looks the awesome on glacier white. White is such a tricky colour and as such you are looking for as much shine and protection.

Having said that on a smaller budget, Carlack Nano topped with Collinite #476s is very difficult to beat.

Really it comes down to budget though and how much you are looking to spend on a range of products.

The washing and drying process is by far the most important stage in maintaing the finish and just generally looking after the paintowrk. A decent lambswool washmitt, shampoo and drying towel are the essentials.

Whats BM bud, buckets ?

2BM is abbreviation for "two bucket method"

One bucket with shampoo in, other bucket has clean rinse water.
Soak washmitt in shampoo, lather an area of the car, rinse in rinse water [dirt deposits should mainly come of into the rinse water], then lather up again in the clean shampoo bucket.

Saves dragging the dirt you've just taken off the car straight back over it again.:D
