help with speakers please

hi, ive just moved into my new apartment and ive just dug out my surround speakers and plugged them in to my p.c. ive been using my computer at my last address but the surround speakers have been stored away in a box for about 18 month since i last moved home. anyway the front two are working fine but the rear speakers are just making a buzzing sound. they worked fine when i used them before i packed them away.
any ideas on how to get them working because i dont have a clue when it comes to technology!
if it helps, the p.c is a dell dimension 9150 and they are the dell speakers that came with it.

is your pc set up in stereo i.e 2 speaker mode???

you might have to set it up for surround???
just a guess
