Hi i need to run the live from my amp to the battery and cant see any easy route into the engine bay i have a mk1 172...help

I think the gromit for the bonnet release cable has been mentioned a few times, not 100% though.

There wasnt a gromit big enough or in the right place for mine, as i have 8 guage cable so is pretty thick.
I had to drill into the engine bay through the passenger side foot-well. I did it behind some pipes blocking it from view, so when i sell it no-one will know.
