High oil pressure

My oil pressure seems to go into the 4-5s on my valver, sometimes it stays around 3ish but seems rather high when its just below the top mark 6, what could be the reason or is it normal? would a service benefit it?

  Caddy Maxi

when does it do it? if its whils driving its normal that the more you put your foot down the higher the oil pressure!

Sounds like pressures a bit to high at 6 Id expect that sort of figures if your driving it hard with cold oil or if youd got some chap oil. Could it be the sensor etc acting up.

Id be very worried if oil pressurs started changing one day eithe being very high or very low as this can be a sign that the pumps dying and it will just one day stop working and unless your very very quick stopping the engine youll have a dead bottom end.

hmm ill service it and ill see what happens, its not been done since december 04 aparently so ill get that done, if oils old and grubby that could be a good reason cant it? how do i know if oil pumps dead? or dying?

Its normal for a Williams 3 engine.. the pressure guages on them goes up and down like the rev counter. Dunno if Glenns was a 3 or not?

1s and 2s seem to be a bit more stable around the 3bar mark..

My Williams3 used to be 6 in the morning without fail.. then drop right down at idle when warm.. slight rev, and its be at 4/5.. heh.

My Williams2 stays about 4 in the morning, and around 2 on idle when warm, 3 when moving.

to be more precise.

What is the pressure when the engine is cold and hot.

Is it only 5-6 bar when you start it, or does it stay that high all the time.

When the car is fully warmed up, what is the pressure at about 3500rpm?

hmm not right sure i will check when i goto work in the morning,

i think he said it was a williams 2. it does sometimes act like a rev counter well similar

  Beetle

is mine dodgy then cos it goes up and down randomly, or is my pump nearly f**ked??

its an m reg valver.

started it this morning and it was about 5 then it setttles to a 3 and when it gets warmer and giving it some it goes higher again. when idling if i rev it then it goes up then falls

Sounds about right.

Put it this way, in any other car with no guage, you wouldnt know to care.. heh.

lol, pressure always increases with rpm, it wont be a steady value all the time.

What you have to note is the pressure at a certain rpm and temp.

Renault suggest 1bar at idle is good, and 3 bar at 3500rpm is good....all at 80deg C oil temps.

pressure without rpm count and oil temp is meaningless
