Hitachi GDR-3120L Xbox 360 DVD Drive

Hi have just bought Hitachi GDR-3120L Xbox 360 DVD Drive from ebay, Will this go in to any xbox 360? I had a samsung one in before this? will this make any difference at all?

depends on what firmware you are planning to put in it and if you have your drive key from the old one.

well my mate has flashed his drive and he has the orginal firmware for the Hitachi drive, so i was thinking if i put that orginal firmware on and the flash the drive it should work? is that right?

not exactly, each drive has a unique encryption key embedded in its firmware which needs to be extracted and then put into whichever drive you are replacing it with. im not 100% but i think if you are swapping drive firmware types or manufacturers then the 360 dash will know a different drive is present so the new drive needs to spoofed to 'appear' to be the drive which was originally present. have a look at xbox-scene as info will be there

Chances are it won't work in your console. One of the lads here has 3 Xbox 360. One Premium flashed one Premium none flashed and now an Elite. One of them died recently so he tried to swap the drives over but the console wouldn't work with the other type of drive.

I'd say the chances of it working are slim.

As Wolf says, there's more to it than just a simple drive swap.
