Hooking up PS3 to HTPC to use creative 7.1 surrond sound setup

  CS Dungeon
I've recently purchased a Sammy Series 8 LED TV and to be honest the sound is appaling for a £1300 32" tv

Anyway, I'm wanting to link my PS3 to my PC, so the PS3 uses the onboard sound instead of the TV speakers for games and BR film's!

What do I need to do?

Hardware:

PS3

Samsung 8000 Series LED tv http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsun...lit-tv-05270785-pdt.html?srcid=867&xtor=AL-89

Inspire T7900 7.1 speakers http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx

Any idea's?

The sound connections (i.e optical) on the m/board will be output not input.

Link to the speakers doesn't work, do they have a separate optical input. this is the only way I can see it working tbh.

Yes the optical port on the main board is output :(
The TV does have a headphones socket and plugged into the T7900 cabled remote (which can be just in the picture at the link above) I can get one channel audio out of my speakers..............hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Other then this the TV does not seem to have any other audio out
I've also tried hooking the headphone socket on the TV to the mic in socket on pc but no joy!

The T7900 does not have its own optical in but the Audigy4 pro sound processor I have does, but I cannot get this working as the sound card to power it does not fit in my HTPC case! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Line in unless it is optical will just give stereo output. Won't get surround sound.

Cheap way of doing it would be a installing a soundcard that supports optical in and can handle the 7.1 audio.

Something like this, put it in the first PCI-E slot then run speakers from that, and run the optical out from the PS3 into the optical input on the sound card. Should work as you want it then.

One of the cheapest I could find that was a known brand to me that supported what you would need.

I have the top end Xfi card in my own system with the 5.25" front ports and ran my PS3 through it for a while until I got better speakers. Worked fine.

To be honest Wozza, its for a film tonight once the mrs has put the kids to bed and even stereo (using the creative front only 2 speakers with the sub would be fine) for tonight and beats having to use the TV's speakers

I'll have a look at your link now, sounds perfect for what I want long term as its only a bedroom setup and these speakers are more the enough for me!

Your links not working either fella

I'll be happy if I can only get 5.1 tbh that would be better for what I'm after
