Horrible thick oil around driveshaft area

Hi all,

I was changing my offside front wheel the other day and noticed that at the end of the driveshaft, there appeared to be some kind of leak, as this thick black oil seems to have leaked and splattered the surrounding area. Now I don't know if that has built up over time, or if this is a recent thing, as I haven't owned the car long. But I cleaned it up best I could, and it was messy.

Any ideas what's causing this? Leaky driveshaft seal?

Cv joint grease, get the boot checked for holes, if not reseal it
