How big a drop?

Own a standard 172 and have some big plans for it in the next few weeks. I want to get lowering springs first. But am not sure how big a drop I should go I was thinking 25mm as I dont want to ruin my shocks etc. I heard anything over 30mm can get dodgy?

Anything over 40mm would be adviseable to get uprated shocks. You won't notice a difference if you lower 25/30mm.
