They should have just made whatever changes to the chassis etc that they wanted to and left the exterior the same - but nobody would buy it over a 197 then. Renault took a risk and most people would say that it hasn't quite paid off; no denying it is a very capable car though. I'm gonna get seriously fed up of these threads if they keep popping up!

  Mini Cooper S sport
Because the black bit on the front bumper looks pap and the 197/R27 is a far better looking car.

I thought I'd feel differently after seeing one in the metal. But no. Bad design.

  Family Bus
Because it isn't a visually pleasing car from all angles?

Side/rear - yes, lovely looking vehicle.

Front. No. no no no. Horrendous. Really cannot stand the front at all. Seen 2 in the flesh and they just aren't attractive car's.

The diffuser has a circular bore in it which is finished in some chrome looking material. The exhaust pipe is hidden away, it finishes a few inches back from the edge of the diffuser and is quite a bit smaller than the bore. Looks like a bit tacky.

because it looks gash! Simple. The front is terrrible - back is ok. Not to say it's not a good car but not looks wise. That front grille is comedy! Looks like a frog.

Seen in the flesh and it's very impressive, Alien Green is an amazing colour... however it's still ugly as f**k from the front :dapprove:

So not one person likes it then? See it in the flesh and it looks stunning.

Seen two of them at FCS, they're not bad, but they're not good either! I'd still have a 197, because I'd never be taking it on track and as far as I can tell that's the only time that there's ever going to be a point in getting the stiffer cup chassis or whatever. Maybe on the b-roads as well, but it's not like the 197 is poor in that regard anyway.

Seeing as the chances of me driving or owning either in the next three years are pretty much non-existant I am however not best placed to comment.

So basically same as the new civic's then,

in fairness i like it, its growing on me everyday but despite the front lookin odd in every colour, id have to order one in black, for the main reason you wont recognise the front panel then :approve:

I'm actually quite liking the 200. Put a 197 esque option splitter on it and I think it'll be transformed.

Funny, when I first joined this forum, people where discussing the same thing between the ph1 and the ph2 172. ;) For me, I prefer the look of the 200 over the 197 and plus it supposed to drive better too. I guess time/sales figures will tell....

Just read the review in new evo mag & it lapped Bedford Autodrome west circuit 2.2 seconds faster than the 197! Not bad at all!
Been to look at one again tonight, it looks like kermit the frog! I love it :)

That the standard or cup model Chris? Impressive figure.

I'm not surprised, it's meant to be a fair bit stiffer. Most miles is these cars will be done on the road though, so it's all about compromise and whether you could live with the ride.

Was the 197 cup mate.
200 cup 1:32
197 cup 1:34.2

not bad over 1.8 miles

Like for like that seems worth it then and I do genuinely believe that Renault won't have too much trouble shifting them, but for me it'd have to be in black lol, hide a few things. With the roads around me I'm not sure I could cope with the chassis though.

You going to be at the NW meet btw?

I thought when I saw one in the metal i would change my mind, it did. It made me like it less! I have not been a fan of the 200 since I first saw pictures, but I thought at least the new diffuser and the front diffuser/splitter thing in the bumper looked good, close up though they look shite.

Saw one of these for the first time today at the RS trackday. It was the alien green one, and I thought it looked pretty good actually!
Looked good going around the track too :)

Its gonna go the same way as the Megane and the old shape Clio....they are bound to leave the very best until the end so im expecting to see a halfcaged, uber light special with some sort of trick diff or amazingly reworked induction system.

You know what Renaultsport are like....

You know what's impressive, it's only about 3 seconds off the pace of the R26.R (1.29 vs. 1.32) and that's a car with more power, more torque, an LSD and most importantly near slick tyres...tyre up the 200 Cup with some R888's and it'd be a lot closer...

...then get carried away by adding a Quaife differential, lose the rear bench, swap the rear windows for plastic, fit a titanium exhaust system and loose the no doubt massive rear silencer and a few other weight saving measures and it'd be a proper race between the two!

Only 1.2 seconds off the pace of the Focus RS, faster than a Mk6 Golf GTi, Clio Trophy (by 2 seconds) and as has been said it's a whole 2.2 seconds faster than the 197 Cup.

Because the tailpipes on it aren't actually the exhaust.

I dont like that about them, but i like it because its... Different? Like the megane everyone was like OH TEH NOES FAT BUM! but i always loved it. TBH This is all void because renault were in there peak at the beginning of this decade:

Laguna Mark 2 Ph1
Renault Vel Satis
Megane
Aventime < personal fav.

Edit: Also the Vee, acid yellow being my fav colour. Drool.

  Cupra
If the Vel Satis and Avantime were Renaults peak, they are truley f**ked when they take take a dip! Both were resounding failures!

I am yet to see a 200 in the metal so will reserve my judgement. The figures are damn impressive though.

Granted, by peak i mean peak in design. The Avantime in particualre is an astonishing piece of design.

The Avantime always came across as a motorshow prototype which somebody decided to put into production. Intersting car, but does not really serve a purpose. I always thought the same of the meg but it grew on me.
