How Do I Fit Cold Air Feed?

Total Noob Here, So be Patient Please!

I Have A 2001 Clio 172, With A Itg Panel Air Filter In, I Have Been Reading Alot About Not Enough Cold Air Coming Into The Engine On Hot Days, And Reducing Performance.

So Would I Be Able To Fit A Cold Air Feed Into My Clio, If So How Could I Do This?

You can remove the fog and run a cold air feed down to it but I personally wouldn't bother.

If your running the OE airbox with a decent filter like the ITG the std air feeds are good enough. It's worth noting that removing the acoustic valve is also a waste of time....renault spent time tuning the inlet tracts using this valve to boost torque so I'd leave it in place.

Up to you though at the end of the day.

I removed mine to put new air feed in place, thus reducing the heat soak. So as above by removing it I doubt it changes things, but by adding my new air feed im certain the car has improved acceleration at low revs since doing it. Heatshielding next

Makes no difference to heat soak....where that valve is stays pretty much the same temp as the air outside the car/engine bay.

The acoustic valve isn't a restriction, it merley changes the length of the inlets at different speeds which is important to torque levels.

Why have it there in the first place then, it would not have been developed. You wont notice the differences at high rpm with this, its low down repsonse, ie, cruising around town to make the car more driveable that it is meant for.

i know what its meant for, doesnt mean it works.

the auto-wipers are _meant_ to come on in the rain, they go ten to the dozen when its spitting and dont bother in a downpour.

The rear seats are 'meant' to house passengers, but i aint got any... lol!

Do the cup racers have the valves in, or removed? im sure they run standard air boxes...

The original 172 never had this valve fitted. The only real benefit I can see, is that in the winter months the valve remains sealed until the engine heats up a little. When I removed this valve the car held back at certain rev ranges. But since fitting the new air feed it has returned it to how it was before, and I have noticed a small improvementin pick up in low down revs which I never had before.

Exactly, not everything is fitted for a reason. And in the acoustic valves case it is more for roas regualtions than anything else. Maybesomeone from Renault UK can confirm this?? :S

It's got nothing to do with heat in winter...it's to do with inlet lengths/tuning.

If your going to run a cone filter it is best to remove it to find the space for an airfeed but if the std box is retained the airfeeds are fine.

Just my opinion though....I just don't see any point in messing with a system which works well.

Agree with you on the cone thing, just heard mixed views on removing this valve. Certainly better since I have got more cold air there tho. May go back to standard air box if not happy tho :rasp:
