  Clio 1.2
Hi guys

Im new to the clios only my 2nd car how do i know what my car is its a 1.2 8v clio im assuming its a mk2 am i right? Also is it worth modding?

Just alloys then ¬¬ but then you will get annoyed about arch gap, then will want to lower it, then the wheels are to tucked in to much so you'd buy spacers, then you'd want to match the paint or something so will spray body parts and tint windows etc etc
One thing leads to another ;)

Sorry i dont mean massive mods like exhausts ect i meant to look better , ive put xenons in and some extra lights in the bumper , my mate is going to tint the windkws for free been told that an induction kit will make it sound ok

All personal preference on your own car, I mean i told myself i wouldnt modify mine much. 1 year down the line its lowered 40mm all round, powerflow exhaust, clio sport grille/rear bumper/spoiler & alloys, new audio etc. I know i wont ever get my money back from modifying my car.. But dont think anyone will whenever modifying any car tbh! I just enjoy spending money on it :)

But first things first: make sure you keep it maintained more than modifying. The amount of people who ive seen struggle to maintain as they bought new bits for their car is unbelievable!

Ahhh right cool i though they all had different engines

Would a induction kit be worth getting thenon the 8v?

Ive not touched the engine modification wise. Ive done exterior mods and thats it so i wouldnt know from experience if the induction kit would be any good. Obviously its going to be more noisy that the standard air box but may drop your MPG with the induction kit. Cant see their being a massive difference in the MPG though.

Ive just been told that if i take my air box off then thats what its like with an induction kit on but its realy laggy and slow of the line

K&N 57i sounds great. No power gain obviously, but sounds good.

Then leave it. Not worth spending too much. Best mod for a 1.2? Clean it.

Does your car have triangular or bubble-shaped headlights?

its the mk2 ph2 version then :) and yeah definitely do not just keep the air box off! Will cause more problems than enough!

i meant he said just try it and thats the sound you will get i dont mean im gunna run the car all the time with it off it just seem pointless if im going to loose power or is that just cause theres no air box on?

You won't gain power from having an induction kit as it just sucks in hot air from around the engine. 9 times out of 10 you'll actually lose power. However it won't be a noticeable amount on a 1.2.

As echoed, as a 1.2 you should just enjoy the years of mostly hassle free, good MPG driving. Relish in the NCB you'll so easily build.
Then again - your car so you can do as you please!

An induction kit will just give you a bit of noise, and only really when you're driving flat to the mat.
Yes you'll loose a tiny bit of power but you're really not going to notice on a 1.2, i hardly noticed on my 1.4. They're right though in saying you do one thing and you get the bug. Definitely with a 1.2, i'd keep it at a pristine, nice little car. Build some ncb then sell it to a new driver, they're always in demand because of the low insurance, tax and repair cost.

If you want a few ideas - there are plenty of 1.2 projects in the Clio Projects section :)

I have alloys and have never done the rest ;)

I've done a few little bits here & there to my 1.2 mate, enough to make it look a bit different to the millions of clio's out there. Each to their own with mods & we can't all afford a Renault Sport strait away. I will echo a comment I read on this forum somewhere. "Some people spend £100+ on drink every weekend that eventually gets turned into piss." Similarly, people smoke £20 of weed a day or do coke on a weekend.

Do what you want with your money, it's your car & your taste. I have a K&N induction kit & the only difference is a bit of noise when I put my foot down. I wanted it & quite like it! I have queried the big exhaust but thought better of it now. I'll be getting it lowered at some point as well. I have a small project thread going if you want a look.
