How easy is it...

How easy is it for me to remove my front bumper?

One of my headlight washers got knocked off and I got the part, but Renault want £90 to fit it and I really don't want to pay that just to fit a tiny little washer.

Can anyone help with any advice on how to do this myself as i'm sure I could?

Cheers

Dead easy Tim, 10-15 Minute job.

Bumper - Remove the 2 X 10mms underneath holding the bumper onto the subframe. Remove the T20s in each wheel arch liner (can jack the car up and take the wheels off if you've got claws for hands) Pull back the arch liner and you'll see a 10mm either side holding the bumper onto the wing. Under the bonnet theres 2 plastic clips - at the top of the grill, pop these off. Now lever the bumper forward / outwards either side at a time, best with a mate each side, unclip fog lights. Done.

When your refitting the headlamp washers, don't overtighten them they'll crack very easily. Also another tip is connect the washer pipes, connect the fogs, fit the bumper in place but don't do all the bolts, then try the washers to see if they leak, before bolting it all on - just saves 10 minutes if they are leaking. Have a look at Middos thread about his radiator theres a few tips on there aswell.

one of my bolts were rounded so i cant get my front bumper off:(

Pain when that happens.

You use mole grips if there is room or in a worst case scenario drill it out, but watch out for the heat generated near plastic etc.

The £90 renault charge probably partly takes into account corroded or knackerd screws / bolts and the time it takes to deal with them. I used to own old cars and some 10 minute jobs would take half a day just because I spent hours drilling out bolts which had rusted into place or been rounded off in the past.

Yeah Rich its a pain when that happens, Never ever think to yourself "I'm on a roll here" when your doing a job quick, as soon as you think that the next bolt will snap/round off/seize lol.

Xcore try getting a small hacksaw, and just sawing straight across the centre of the screw - so you can get a more manly flatblade screwdriver in.

How much did the washer cost you? I need to get one for my 172, I only need the ball piece that fits in the end of the washer stalk...doubt I can get just that piece tho!!!....was it main dealer?

£11 inc vat iirc, got one about a week ago. Wouldn't just replace the ball, i did that last time, superglued it in and it still came out! So going to replace the whole washer jet this time round.

If its the passenger side you dont even have to remove the bumper, i took the passanger front wheel and inner arch off and you can get to it - took less than 15 mins to do the lot. Not sure if its the same on the drivers side - hvent looked
