How much coolant loss is normal on a 1.2?

In roughly 2 months the reservoir level has gone down about 1cm. I have absolutely no idea what a normal loss is!

Would this amount be associated with a head gasket failure, or does it vary?

It's normally associated with a leak in the coolant system.

Be it from a hose, the radiator, water pump or the channels in the block.

you shouldn't really lose any but such a small amount i wouldn't worry too much, top it up and keep an eye on it. you could get a pressure test done but chances are it wouldn't show anything. would be worth throwing some uv dye in though and having a look round after a few days.

Could it leak from using the heater? This is the first winter i've had the car and I always have them on high
