How Much?

How much am I looking at to have my car de-swirled and having some scratches removed?

I appreciate that professional valeters will cost more than someone off here, but a rough guide to how much I should be paying at mates rates would be good.

Mates rates anywhere from free to about £80 I'd say. For most hobbyists the prices seem to range from £80-100. Worth the money IMHO.

£250?! No offence to you or the lad that did it, but I see nothing out of the world amazing about the end result, yes it looks a s**t load better but if I'm honest I've seen similar, if not better, results by Jamie and Ali TBQFH.

I dont think the photos do it proper justice tbh.. Obviously you can see the difference from the inspection and 50/50 photos... on a 2001 car theres only so much you can do the paintwork to improve it aside from a full respray! What end result would you classify as being amazing? The guy that did it is a professional full time detailer whos normally used to doing high value super cars! His reputation is the best in Northern Ireland so I think that allows him to charge maybe that bit more as his work is in demand.

Nah, 1.2 does 500 mpg so will pop up for a fiver. I heard there was a reserved car park for German cars at FCS, fancy coming along? ;)

WOAH calm down with the exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!! :rasp:

Like said the car looks a lot better due to the paint correction, but IMHO there's not a great amount of gloss, depth or warmth to the paint and the choice of products could be better.

People will think I'm bumming them but I just respect the quality of their work, so just go and look at the thread on Ali's V or any of the recent write ups by JD. Their correction is equally remarkable but the difference for me is that the paint looks like it's brand new, full of gloss, wet and really reflective. That's amazing in my opinion and the cars they are working on are of similar ages to your own.

However all that really matters is that you are prepared to pay that amount and are happy with the finished article and like I said I wasn't trying to cause offence to you or the detailer, but my own thought is that you have paid too much and most of this is paying for his reputaion. Whilst the guy might be the "best" in NI I think there are better out there that charge a lot less and get better results, some of which are only hobbyists.

No problem.. it doesnt bother me what you think as you are entitled to your opinion!

what u put infront of me
anyone can pick up a DA polisher and a cutting pad and some type of swirl remover product from the internet and call them self a paint correction specialist,

but how many of them are insured? all you need is a thin piece of of clear coat and bingo strike through, now whos gunna pay for that? the detailer or the owner? very risky letting a non uninsured "pro" near your paint work. and i have seen friendships over with this type of detailing at mates rates.

its nice to save a few £££ but the few £££ more can also bring you peace of mind..

and i would say you should be looking at about the £250 - £350 mark.

As above really, a pro will have overheads such as insurance and advertising, hence why they cost more than a 'hobbyist'.

£8 an hour is a reasonable rate if done b a 'non pro'.

A professional would charge approx £350 upwards for a full paint correction detail.

And would include;

An intensive wash programme using a ph neutral wash concentrate,
A warm citrus pre-wash solution applied to vehicle and rinsed,
Vehicle foamed using a deep lather to draw the dirt out and rinsed,
Vehicle re-foamed and washed using a 2 bucket method,
Paintwork dried using plush microfibre drying cloths,
Arches and door shuts cleaned,
Wheels cleaned using a ph neutral gel and horse hair brushes,
Paintwork clay barred to remove any bonded contaminants,
Paint depth readings taken to access the level of correction,
Full paintwork correction using compounds & fine polishes by rotary polisher to remove defects and level the paint,
Paintwork burnished by machine using finishing polishes and glazing oils to produce a high gloss and depth of clarity,
Paintwork wiped down with a mild alcohol solution,
Pre-wax paintwork cleanser or glaze applied to aid wax bonding,
2 layers of 51% yellow carnuaba wax or sealant applied to paintwork and shuts,
Alloys polished and sealed throughout using an acrylic wax,
Windows polished throughout and treated with rain repellant,
Tyres, arches and exterior trim dressed & polished,
Chrome & metal trim polished and sealed,
Final buff down with a detailing spray & plush microfibres,
Door rubbers treated with a weatherproof conditioner.

Time required approx 12-40 hours over 2 -4 days.

Again, a spot on guide. But to be honest, for most on here (clios) that will be far more than people are willing to pay/give up time wise on a their cars.

That is why people such as the detailers on here (Paul, Alan, Ali, myself) are asked very frequently for a "quick" going over. High standard, but not OTT.

Also why I might as well get your direct line Matt ;)

Another order coming your way first week of July fella.
