How safe is NITROUS

Just wanted to know how safe this was and what damage it can do to your engine ? If it was used just for 1/4 miling would it do anything bad to the car ?

How much are nitrous kits these days ?

does the 172 ECU cope with nitrous or would you need to get it chipped??

I think if you get the wet kit there is an extra fuel solanoid aswell as the n20 one, that way when the N20 is pumped in extra fuel also goes in to stop it running lean..

Could be completly wrong but that was my understanding of the wet kit.

Perfectly safe as long as you hook it up right. Youll need a wet kit which contains both fuel and nitrous solenoids and a jet or jets that will handle both.

Would it be setup to automatically kick in or is it activated using a button ?

There is a wet kit on eBay for £350 at the moment.

There are 2 switches. One is the master switch for the whole system - the system will never inject NOS if its off. Another switch sits under the accelerator - when the master switch is ON and you floor the accelerator the NOS is activated and you disappear into the distance.

There are more spohisticated solutions that use computers to progressively control the flow, but the basic ones are an all or nothing system.

There was a bloke on here a while back that was running a 50 shot of n20 on his 172. He got slated when he raced stuff and used the N20 though..

He came to the last swindon meet i went to. the bloke was cool. his motor was quick without nitrous. with it i imagine it was mental. He got loads of stick on here bang out of order.

Ye i thought he had a 16v not a 172.. thats what confused me.. ah well at least one other person remember who I am talking about..thought I was going crazy.. long time back though..
