How to get files from old hard drive?

Right my old laptop decided one day it wouldnt start up and it would instead give me a message which said 'insert windows disc' or something like that, however the cd drive doesnt work because of a previous cola spilling incident, being that the cola spill had also ruined the on/off button (leaving me inserting a chip type thing init to turn it on or off) i decided to just get a new laptop.

The problem being i have many many music files/pictures/videos e.t.c on the old laptop, how do i get it all onto my new one?

the old computer is a dell the new one is an acer, if that helps anyone.

Thansk for any help

Take the hdd out and put it into a usb caddy, might need to use some recovery tools to get your stuff off it if you are getting 'insert windows disc'

Yeah you can get a convertor for the older IDE type connections, not expensive at all.
