How to speak to the insurance company....

Hi there all!

Ive got a 8 week old car... and have already done quite a few things to it since then... But i still aint spoken to my insurance company about them!

Just wondering how i go about the phone call in declaring them?!?! Not sure what to say... how to go about it... coz ive already got them on my car so how should i word what i want to declare?

Cheers for any help guys, im a bit of a wuss when it comes to ringing insurance companies

I aint got any engine work... just lowered, bodycoloured, lexus lights, 17" alloys, different bulbs, ice etc etc.

"Im thinking about doing... how would it affect my policy?"

"it would increase it by 5000%.."

"ok, well I wont do it then.. " or "Ok, Ill go ahead with them.. can you make a note please"

You better call them ASAP because if you make any modifications without telling the insurance company crash, the loss adjuster will deem your insurance null and void and you will incurr the costs, god help you if its your fault.

A story from another forum, READ CAREFULLY

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you put kit on a car and do not declare it, if you claim against the policy then if the loss adjuster turns up and says you did not declare that nice new grill thats not standard even though its made by Peugoet then forget even going any furthur. They are not stupid people.

In fact my mate was in the same spot, thought he could bluff them and the loss adjuster who came had a photo of an unmodded car as it left the production line.

Policy ----> Smoke

That left him a bill for the car, outstanding finance, a heafty fine for having now, in the eyes of the Law no insurance, penalty points and no car. (and damage to pay for to street furnature)

If you think its cheap to not bother telling them then run the risk, Id rather pay another £100 or so than get caught in that trap.

If you can afford the mods you need to put the insurance cost into it. If you run into me with a modded car and under insured then Ill gladly point it out to them, why do I have to pay full whack whilst you dont?

If the insurance company can find a way not to pay they will

Your bnot insured if you have modified the car. Soif you dont ring them and pay icy your going to have some trouble if you crash.

Ring up and ask them the worse they can say is there no way we will insure you with those mods then you know to chnage insurance companies or drive around uninsured.

Your doing the worst thing paying for insurance then invalidating it. Driving without inurance at all is stupid, but driving with payed up invalid insurance is stupid and a waste.

Yeah i was asking the same....

but its gonna be a lil sus if i go.....

"im thinking about doing this, how will it effect my policy"?

"wouldnt change it in the slightest, but engine mods would"

"ok, in that case could i please declare alloys, lowering, bodycolouring and a change of rear lights and 2k of ice please....?"

Surely that would sound alil sus coz that sounds like ive already had it done and only just told them?! (which i have lol)

is there anyway of wording that better?!

p.s. i know all about the voiding of insurance, that isnt what i was asking lol, I did the same on my car and had to remove the mods the next day with whiplash hehe.

& if u look above its 8 weeks old, but what I neglected to mention, its free insurance....

But like i said its not NOTHING to do with how much mods would cost, and the voiding coz i already know all this, ive had 3 modded cars and the 2nd i declared all after learning my lesson (even if i got away with getting all the mods changed over, air filter was a lil more difficult as it was a front on collision ;)

all i want to know is how i should go about the call coz i know its not gonna cost me anything more! so thats not the problem! i just dont know how to word it lol

Just ring them up and say that you wish to make some amendments to your policy. Tell them what you want to declare and away you go. If they start getting funny about you driving without insurance, you can just say that the car is in the workshop getting the colour coding finished or whatever, therefore its not on the road.

I rang my insurers after I fitted my suspension and alloys, they just said it will be x amout extra, they took the money out my account and that was it. No questions asked.

well when my car was written off the insurance inspector overlooked the stainless induction kit, colour coding and lowering springs

but it has opened my eyes to the ease at which it can all go wrong, and i will be telling my insurance company everything

geez, doesnt any pplz ready my posts  i said it was free insurance!!! so theres only one insurance company! i.e. renault insurance! and i dont know of anyone that has had any problems wit the mods ive done! its just how i tell them!!!

Renult insuracne are ok with mods as logn as they dont increase the performance of the car.

So inductions kits maybe out.

Try ringing them up and asking about the mods your car has. If they say no problem ask if you can add them to the policy asap as your of to buy them in the next week. I think the excess goes upto 1K (if your under 21) with any mods and they want a small fee to modifuy the policy.

I only mentioned the voilding of the insurance as your saying about incuding mods to a policy which is in effect invalid in the first place.

Some representatives at Renault insuracne will allow you to lower the car and write it in as a external mod.
