Hi,
I am looking at buying my first Clio, I have done quite a bit of research on them and know that I want a FF, RB, with good or full service history, ideally belt service already done. Main key points from a personal point of view is that the main paintwork is in good nick, the engine has no major problems and not mental mileage, pretty standard really when looking for a new car. Anyway Jon.G and myself went down to Birmingham last night to look at one.
On the whole the car is in quite good condition, the description is as follows:
Full Fat, Racing Blue, stripes, 70,000 on the clock, full Renault service history (bar the belt and dephaser that was done at NW Performance!) £3400
The overall feel of the car is good, it seems to run fine, and the paint is in pretty good condtion. There are a few points that bother me though, the belts, of course changed at NWP so they would probably need redoing, as the belts were changed, then 2000 miles later, the dephaser was changed?! Also the door has some marks on the end of it, not the face or the inside face, but the very edge of the panel, as if it has been hit into a wall, this has started to suffer from the very early stages of surface rust, so would need respraying (anybody any rough ideas on costs for this???) The sump cover also has a lot of oil on it, and the sump nut also has a lot of oil around it, so could this be a potential leak? Finally the car has had 5 owners in 5 years. This rings the most alarm bells for me as I am concerned it may be riddled with problems!! I know it has been on CS at some point in its life, and has always lived in the NW area. I was hoping someone could shed some light on it and maybe point me in the right direction as to any problems with it, or why it has changed hands so many times!?
Reg plate is HY05 XGG
I obviously havn't bought the car yet, nor have I placed a deposit on it, so I want a no BS assesment from anyone who can help. I have around £4700 to spend, so this is way under budget, so some small problems are fine, I just don't want to buy a money pit!
If anyone can help I will be so grateful...
Cheers.
