afaik catd d means the car was damaged but allowed to be repaired, i.e. it wasn't a complete wreck. Often with cat D the car is written off then the owner is allowed to buy it back to have it repaired.

  Beetle
not sure if it will affect insurance to be honest, although the car should be cheaper than your regular one if its been accident damaged

The car will be repaired but it should be a lot cheaper.Pain in the ass to sell on

no!
Are you insane??! ;)
look at the pic from the back, the bumper has been pushed right under, so the 'slight dent in the tailgate' is a rear end shunt! Thats probably all that cars worth anyway, even in undamaged condition.

the rear end shunt wont be too bad or else it wouldve been classed as a cat c, i.e. repairs deemed to be more expensive than the previous (undamaged) market value of the car, so if there is bumper damage, dent removal, maybe a panel change plus all paint and labour then at full dealer repair costs it would rather expensive. if its a CAT D its probably just unsightly paintwork and minimal damage, cars this old and worth so little are nearly always recorded as CAT C to put off people from putting them back on the road on a shoe string budget, i.e. making them less attractive to sell on. if its peanuts then do it, i do quite a few with my uncle, but this one sadly isnt that cheap so i would say offer him £100 and take it from there! haha
