i hate selling cars

ive got 2 cars up for sale my 172 & my saab 9-5

so many people are just time wasters & messers

someone just rang up about the 172 & seid he could come look tomorrow & he'd bring 2K with him i laughed down the phone at him everyone wants something for nuffin it seems

my old saab is only up for £800 worth every penny but again everyone wants to buy it for £1.50 it seems

then i get on to the people that dont turn up had one person monday not turn up to look at the 172 & one person today about the saab not evon a phone call to say i cant make it etc wood it kill people to make a 30sec phone call noooooooooooooooo!!

i'd never dream of letting someone sit in for me if i couldnt make it its just the done thing common courtesy & all that

I know what your saying mate But to be honest I look at it slightly differently.

I've bought and sold a fair few cars in my time and for the most part never had any hassle.

Advertise your cars as well as you can and treat every person that phones as a timewaster. That way your not let down. If someone really is interested in your car then they will be on your doorstep with cash in their back pocket.

Personally I think im pretty good at spotting a timewaster straight away. And when I do I dont even entertain them.

me too!! first thing i say to anyone that phones is that the car is as described in the advert and if they want to talk cash then fine but id rather they looked at the car first

Oddly enough i have sold 3 or4 for work colleagues who go back to europe and do not have the time to sell themselves, usually for a 200 cut, so not so bad when its not my car as its their problem if it doesnt sell for the price they want!

When I go to view a car I always (well 99% of the time) I have the readies to buy it if they wouldn't budge on the price. If the cars over priced i'm likely to wait a bit until the seller realises it & lowers it a bit.
I will haggle though & i'd expect to be haggled with, folk who go in low (or wanting to make a dela on the phone) expecting a bargain can go away tbh.

Guy arrived Sun 10.30 was driving off in it by 11.30 & i was loaded

I advertised my 182 11pm one night, phone call on the way to work the next morning from a bloke at the other end of the country. Next day he turned up had a drive & bought it.

And mike, I feel your pain as it drove off I was truly gutted knowing I wouldn't see it again

I know the feeling here. I have my Corolla for sale, only due to a change in location so need something small like the clio again and i'm getting a motorbike.

I have priced mine £1,000 cheaper than the next Compressor for sale and I have some tool offer me 6k for it which you can't buy a decent T-Sport for and that's about it. Bloody specialist cars!!

Fingers crossed it will sell soon as I am moving in under a month!!

I have just sold my Bora to the first person who saw it. In the meantime I have had people haggling with my by text message without even seeing the car. I have come to the conclusion that anyone who cannot be bothered to see the car is a waster .

If all goes to plan, my Bora gets picked up on Sunday and I am picking up a Clio 197 from you know who (Seb if you haven't read some of the other posts) on Monday.

Then I am really going to spash out and join this forum properly

The only car I've sold privately was my RB 182. Sold it to someone on here, and he was absolutely sound. We haggled a bit over the price then met in the middle (so to speak), he paid in cash and it was all fine. To be fair he did get a good car.

Was GUTTED watching him drive it away :dapprove:

What do you guys do if the potential buyer wants to test drive the car? Do you take them out and hope they don't ask/just tell them there not insured or do you just let them have a sneaky go.

I personally wouldn't let them unless they were extremely genuine/sensible and had insurance.

People who are struggling to sell, how are your adverts ?

A properly written advert is needed to get serious interest IMO. Be completely honest too. As soon as the fella turned up to view mine I showed him all the bad parts first, and I mean all of them. In doing so proving I had nothing to hide.
If your car is well looked after it shows and you should be able to shift it fairly easily!

Or that's how it seems to me anyway!

I quite enjoy selling cars. Never had any problems really. Old 1.4 went from an Ad in the paper, first bloke bought it within the day. 182 sold on here/pistonheads within a week or so, first person to see the car again.

Just sold my old Fiesta runabout too, to a lad at work. It needed a bit of work so it was nice and easy letting it go to him for slightly less than what i wanted without having to spend a penny on it.
