I no this shouldn't be done but....

  Glacier White 197 Cup
Just purchased my 172 and when driving my car from cold, it usually takes about 10 mins to warm up. But if i put my foot down in that 10 mins (which i no shouldn't be done) in second gear the car only travels up to 60mph beore hitting the limiter where as when it is warm it can get up to about 67mph before hitting the rev limiter. Is the car designed to do this so u dont hit too many revs when it is cold? I might be being really stupid but wondered if anyone could help. cheers!

cheers mate, so now i no :). So does that mean the car can be driven as hard as it lets me even when its cold, due to the safety feature?

I wouldnt think so mate.... it obviously is a safety measure but i would image if carried out frequently, there would be inceased engine wear, leading potentially to a inefficient, less performing engine.

I personally dont go above 4000rpm in the first 7-10 mins, depending on the driving style.

Difficult to do this though as the bottom of my road leads onto a 70moh dual road with a blind corner. lol. Only know there is a car coming when your on the road, but still get it to 3500 or something to safely get up to speed. Great fun when the car is already warm though...lol

Also not possible! LOL ^^^ 1000 is about tickover, I rev to about 4k before it's warm...Look out for the shift light, thats the only way to know if it's warm or not.

and pointless it would take about 30min to warm up!!! just dont spank it using part throttle and low loads less than 4k is what i do

keeping it under 2000rpm is near impossible to actually drive. 3-4k is more reasonable.

Keep in mind that revving it hard before its warmed up can damage internals, it works the other way as said above by someone, in that if you're driving practically on idle, oil pressure will stay low, depriving internals of oil.

come on this isn't rocket science lol, drive between 2 & 4 k max untill the engine has had time to warm up!!! if you care for your car. if you don't then rev the sh+t out of it cold lol
