Ibis White Audi TT New Car Protection Detail

A few months ago I was contacted to detail a brand new Audi TT before collection, so I arranged to do the detail at Audi in Swindon on Saturday, with the car being picked up at the end of the day.

I had a valeting bay reserved for the day and a space in the brand new workshop with a lift, which I could definitely get used to!

A few befores of the car; was very clean as expected with only 9 miles on the clock!

Getting on with the wheels; As usual I used Bilberry and various brushes.

On to the bodywork; the remaining wraps were removed and the car was pre-soaked with AF Citrus.

The rear panels were quite dirty as they weren't wrapped for transit, which shows up later during the decontamination.

The car was then washed with GWash and the Merino wash mitt.

All clean! The valeters next door had done about 30 cars in the time I finished...

Nothing came of the first hit so it was onto claying, which again, didn't pick much up but left the car totally clean.

You had me at 'drying bay'.

WTF do you mean?? Please don't tell me they have a bay designated to drying??

Amazing stuff mate. I can imagine a very happy new owner on collection.

Excellent write up. I bet saying the new owner was chuffed is an understatement!

Thanks both! The owner was very happy. :)

I'm not joking! They have valeting bays, then directly in front are the drying bays in the back of the service area.

So what happens in the drying bay? Masses of hot air being pumped out? Explain yourself man!

So it's just a parking space.

You bigged that up a bit too much tbh mate.

Amazing finish mate. I had no idea you were set up as a fully fledge co :) top work!

Really came up well mate, found it a tad strange there was no polishing involved? Especially after claying which inflict micro-marring in itself. Not picking holes as it's a superb protection detail just curious.

I picked up on that. Claying is a pretty destructive process. After doing my girlfriends Ka the other weekend it looked shocking after the clay, but superb once I'd corrected it.

Well you are, but that's fine!

Quite a few reasons why I decided against it. I went in with the intention to polish after claying but looking at the car under the brinkmann it was genuinely flawless, even on the black plastics.

I deliberately chose the AF clay as it's very mild in comparison to others and there wasn't anything being lifted after quite a thorough decon stage, so the chances of marring were minimised a lot.

Indeed Chap. You seen the car, I didn't. Just something I would always do.

Agree with Gally (no surprise), but if it didn't need it, that's the call of the on site detailer :)

Looks cracking! Although why the feck anyone buys diseasel TTs/softops is beyond me.

I actually like the fact they offered TDI, sports car looks and nice Mpg depending on job. So FU?

Haha, I'd agree with kev as well in most cases, but the paint was in a brilliant condition bar the fallout, as a new car should be! Possibly because I'd asked for no one to clean or valet the car before me, but you never know.

I'm not a fan usually mate but it was smart looking and the interior was very nice!

Nothing beats a brand new car either, so fresh.

Feedback from the customer today was -

"Brilliant job done and such a nice guy, will have him to do the work again on my car in the future."

:)

Looks nice chappers, hope the dealer took note.

On the diesel sports car front, manufacturers need to do something that works. I want a car to look nice and handle well, I can cope with average performance provided it drives well enough to carry speed and brake well. Doing 60 - 110 per day mpg of even the newest low cc turbo petrol engines can't quite match cost.

Thanks Dave. :) They were really accommodating for me to be fair.

There's definitely a growing market for sporty looking diesels.

Parked out the back of the garage was a special edition TDI TT that had the rotor wheels, Daytona grey paint and RS spoiler, basically looked exactly like a TTRS but probably half the price!
