ICE External HU Inputs

  ClioSport 182
I recently invested in a Garmin Nuvi GPS unit which attaches very neatly to the windscreen. The unit also pumps out MP3's (2Gig SD Disk) through a 3.5mm jack. Great!

Now I need to connect it somehow to the HU to amp the sound. Been doing some research and it seems that a front aux socket on HU's is not favoured by the big makes (Apline, Sony, etc.).

Alpine have a not so "Versatile Input" which connects at the back of the HU. Not sure how this is supposed to help me ... do I have to feed the cable through the vents or drill a hole or something? A tidy installation is a must.

Anyone have any recommendations or ideas? I'm sure that the setup is a common one connecting an MP3 device to an external input on the HU.

Anyone implemented a tidy Apline "versatile link" solution and connected an external device without any messing wiring?

Ideally it would be something like:

HU -> External female connection (somewhere on fixed the dash) -> short wire -> MP3 Player
