ICE install problem. Weird!!

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

Ok, ive been attempting to install my head unit in my new motor. Just the head unit for now untill I get a new amp, etc sorted.

Anyway, the car has the normal connector blocks which come as standard, and I have the normal Sony female connector which in theory should work, as they both fit and the wires are all connected.

But theres nothing at all. No power in the head unit. I tested the positive from the car and it is showing live, but I also noticed that once all connected up the ground gives a live showing coming out the stereo!

Im no expert with this type of thing and would apprciate any help! I love the sound of the exhaust but I need some tunes on the motorway to work

Cheers

Well if its anything like my clio then the problem maybe that its only wired to give power when you have the ignition turned on. So basically turn on your ignition and the stereo should have power.

The way around it is to wire the red wire at the back of your sony stereo into the double connector on the yellow wire (this will be fairly obvious when you see it) and then it will get permanent 12v power.

HTH

probably a daft question, have you put the two iso connectors in the right way? one is for the power, ground etc the other for all the speaker wires. Wrong way and you are sending 12v to your speakers! alternatively the previous owner has cut a wire somewhere (maybe the remote live) to fit an amp or something.

Yeah all the colour wires going into the stereo are connected to the same colour wires in the car. Havent plugges in the wrong connectors. I dont think they fit, slightly different shape I think!

The wires seem to be ok no signs of being cut anywhere!

Doing my head in now, any other thoughts??

Cheers

the only thing i can think of is a knackered head unit, my bro has got through 5 sony ones! just kept on dying.

Have you made sure the arial is plugged in some head units ground through the arial and so will not work unless its attached. Just a thought worth a shot.
