Idling from cold

  Black PH2 172 FF
Someone HELP, this is really annoying now!

When I start the car from stone cold, the rev counter kind of goes up and down, and nearly dies. If I rev it, it tends to drop right back down to nothing, and if I try to pull away, it either jerks the car (As the revs go up and down) or sometimes it stalls.

But by the time I've got to the end of the road, it's fine again. It just happens when I start up from cold. Do I need to replace something? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

My vtr used to do that but all the time, not just when cold!

I find my car feels a bit rough when I first drive it from cold. I'm hoping a good service from Mark Fish will sort it out!

Normally induction kits cause problems when there is too much hot air! Could be one of the sensors or coilpack or even your leads ;)

i was told it could be the idle valve sensor that could be dirty, and it needs a proper clean out.

mine (1.6 16v so more or less the same engine) hates the cold although mine idles stable enough

however when throttle is applied it does its stupid thing where it revs up then the revs drop and nearly stalls. ive always thought this was just because it was french and its surrendering to the cold........ lol
does this a couple of times then its fine

mines done it for as long as i can remember to be honest so ive never bothered to look into it
