idling problem rt

just recently my car has started to idle alot lower than it use to and when i start it up after my car stands for a while (or in the morning) it cuts out unless i rev it.wots going on?

Most renault clios idle badly - ive got a 95 valva and mine does the same - although it doesnt cut out. Lots of people have posted on this site saying that theres do. I had a look in the Haynes (the holy bible of clio expertise) to see if i could get mine idling a bit higher than 700rpm but it said that valvas cant be fiddled with in this way - however - RTs i believe can - have you got a haynes ? - oh and for anyone who can help me, If im stopped and i start turning my wheel, the power steering kicks in (obviously) and the engine revs drop until it cuts out (unless i stop turning the wheel of course). Its as if the engine cannot provide sufficient power to keep itself running and provide the power steering......

I had that on my old RT and it was found to be the Lambda sensor,

Also check your injectors, get some of that injector cleaner from Halfords

Injectors are fine mate - all new! Lambda Sensor eh hhhmmmmm wheres that? is it replaceable? Fixable - couldnt find any mention of it in the haynes....

It is a sensor that goes into the exhaust system and measures how much oxygen or CO2 or what ever is coming out of the exhaust and makes adjustments to the fuel air mix going into the engine. Kind of tells the ecu the measurements of each (something like that).

The same thing happens with the wifes 1.4 RT. Tickover is up and down once the engine has warmed up, but its never stalled, it just wont stay still.

Ive not looked at what it could be yet, but my guess is what Brun just posted, the idle control motor.

Yer Im having a similar problem, mine idles all over the place it even goes upto 2200 revs sometimes, crazy! However, sometimes it will sit perfectly at 900 after the engine has been running for a while!

But its got a lot better since Ive been driving a far distance to work, the engine is getting a good run more often!

I was going to take it to a specialised diagnosis place in Preston but he wanted £40 just to tell me what was wrong and then whatever the cost of the part will be on top of it!

a 1.4rt has a idle stepper moter on the o/s of the throttle body which are quite commen for the cause of idle problems.

tiger-a williams has a idle control valve not a stepper moter.the stepper moter is a little moter that directly operates the throttle butterfly.a idle control valve is a air valve that lets a regulated amount of air bypass around the throttle body and into the inlet manifold.
