if i lowered my car 40mm...

  Clio 1.2 Dynamique
with say 40mm apex springs, anyone have an idea of how much that would add to my insurance? currently in my first year of insurance, only started driving 3 months ago. thanks

usually they only charge for power modifications that increase bhp. Springs arent usually a factor or problem. Depends on your insurance company though and if they are mod friendly.

Ring them and ask. Different insurers have different views on mods. Some will just add it at little or no charge, others will charge you several hundred more or even tell you then wont conver modifications.

  Clio 1.2 Dynamique
im with direct line, looked over there site and it looks as though they dont cover any modifications to your car if you're under 25. but im still guna ring up just to check. thanks for the info guys.

  Ph1 track 172
direct line wont let you do ANY performance mods until yous 25,
any mods that increase perfomance,
and that includes alloys, wit low profile tyres
so im guessin suspension wud come under that too,
even if the main driver is over 25 they wont have none of it
switch companies,

well my impreza was double from ading a roll cage! i mean thats a saftey device not a performance mod. i can see that they might think you would drive faster cause you think your safer.. but to double it???

that was with elephant.

ps. whos to say your cars lowered 40mm? i couldnt tell im not a mechanic! bit of mud on the springs and its prtty hard to tell ;)
its only if your car has loads of untastefull mods askin for an inspection.

perhaps by adding a roll cage your telling your insurance company rolling your car is one of you concerns

implying that you intend to drive in a mannor that may result in your car rolling :S:S

my m8s put a roll cage in his fezzy and he hasnt even passed yet, hes only 17,
hes never gna get inured lol

Dont tell them, play dumb... im not telling mine about my coilovers when I get them cause they want an extra £300

  Clio 1.2 Dynamique

i like this :p

thanks guys :)

Ignorance wont count for s**t if you have an accident and the assesor starts poking around the car. As for the people suggesting insurance fraud by non disclosure it c*nts like you that push everyones premiums up. If your insurer wont cover it or you cant afford the extra then don't do it, it's that simple.

Insurance is a declaration of truth, not telling them means your giving them a way to refuse a pay out. Plus, if you were unlucky enough to get pulled over by an officer who notices your car's lowered, they can check within 5 mins if you've insured the mods. If not, no insurance = 6 points on your licence.

as far as the insurance company know, you've only just put the mods on the car and have yet to tell them about it...

The more threads I read on this forum lately the more I'm convinced there's been an influx of morons. You have to declare/inform the insurance company of any mods prior to or at the time of you doing them not after. The second you fit a set of springs or wheels etc that arent listed on the policy your insurance is null and void until you inform them and pay any increased premium.

+1, sometimes these rules are there to be "reshaped"...

Loony, obviously your argument is correct, but at the end of the day, you can get away with it. I had several mods on an old car (bigger wheels, 40mm lowered etc) and claimed and there was no problem. The fact of the matter is its obviously a risk, and the question is whether the risk is worth taking. Being a moron doesn't really come into it! Unless you are one of course! ;)

They have clamped down alot on this sort of thing recently. Any opportunity not to pay out then an insurer will take it. Coming on a public forum and either stating you have mods on your car that arent declared or advising someone else not to declare theirs is retarded. I've had insurance companies call me on numerous occasions in the past (working in the motortrade) to confirm various specs on cars being standard factory fit so I know full well that these things are looked into.

Fair enough, see what you mean. But at the end of the day, if you don't reveal your name/registration etc etc, the public forum bit isn't an issue. It was many years ago now that I had my claim, and as you say, sounds like things have changed a fair bit. Bottom line is insurance companies are the devil!

They are but at the same time they're well within their rights to refuse a pay out if some young lad starts bolting on bits that they've not paid the appropriate premium to cover. I don't even want to add up what I've spent insuring cars over the years (I've had hot hatches right from passing my test to present) but at the same time it's far less than the insurer would pay out if I had a serious accident so it's swings and roundabouts.

  Clio 1.2 Dynamique
From what I'm reading, especially the bit about the police checking about the mods, might be best not to add the springs just yet.

Thanks for in the information and input by everyone =)

Wicked... when you have a bump or write off your car and need money they will bascially stick two fingers up at you and invalidate your claim. Unlucky ;)

You are basically obtaining insurance by deception/fraud by giving false details regarding your car. PWND.

I'm with direct line for another 364 days :( they where the cheapest i could find by a few £100's so i thort i'd bite the bullet and stay standard for a year. I don't want to pay £1400 for insurance then void it by adding undeclared mods.
