If your thinking of buying an ex demo

I went to renault today to test drive a 182, they didnt have a 182 in at the time but did have a 182 cup. The salesman wanted to drive for a while first before letting me drive. The salesman was pushing the car to the max on the dual carriageway, rev limiter on every gear change. He had hardly let the car warm up so i thought he had been out in it earlier to warm it up.

Anyway , he let me drive after 10 minutes, I got in and immediately noticed the car had only done 16 miles in total !(ive got a 172 so played with the vdu to make sure it wasnt the trip counter). As the salesman drove like a loon, i thought id follow suit and cane it a bit. Got back to Renault after a good 10 mile drive. Turned the engine off ,got out of the car and the crackling noise coming from the exhaust was really loud, much louder than my 172 has ever been.

This has taught me never to buy any ex demo models. What happens to the engine if it isnt run in? this car was redlined and hit the rev limiter within 2 miles of its life all the way to 26 miles and will probably be caned on a regular basis.

If you were a Renault salesman - would you rag the nuts off a car that you did not have to personally worry about...

I know I would :devilish:

  ex Clio 172 owner :(

Id never buy an ex demo.

You never know whos driven it and how badly. Asking for trouble down the line. Yeah you have a warranty but repairs are inconvenient and a total pain.

  172, Tiguan

As ive said before, my old DCI was an ex demo. Was the best Clio Ive had so far.

I used to have a 106 GTI. Had it from new, always let it warm up properly then raged it everywhere! I never did that run it in business. I had it 4 years /50k miles it never missed a beat and it flew. My mate bought it off of me, its now 7 years old 85k miles and still proper mint.

I rag all of my cars and they love it! As long as you let them warm up properly its ok.

its funny, I usually run my racing engines in pretty thorougly and they seem ok, but there was one occurance where we didnt have time to run it in, just went straight out on the track, flat out everywhere, didnt even have time to warm it up! strange thing was that engine was an absolute flyer and never went wrong!

strange thing, running in engines:confused:
