How do people get caught? Because if they track how much illegal stuff goes down your IP I'm screwed!

I have downloaded over 200GB of music :S

Posting about it wont help.

I think basically they try and take out some of the huge sharers/downloaders to discourage others.

they'll be onto p**n baron rob next!
Haha

Already have been :-( . Got an e-mail from Orange saying they are going to suspend my services if i go over the 2 GB bandwidth this month.

But they didn't say nothing about illegal files lol :) Guess they think i just look at alot of pictures.

Don't think they can look into the actual files you download, just what type of traffic ie p2p in general.

A 13 year old girl in America was sued for $12m for illegally downloading music files. She couldnt pay it in the end, surprisingly, so was sued for something more reasonable. 200GB to be honest is small fry compared to what happens in the US. Although saying that, expect a rat a tat tat off the Sheriff in the next couple of hours. Just dont answer the door ;)

If you were using torrents how could they tell what you were downloading was illegal? Some freeware and shareware is available via torrents?

Oops beaten to it!

i was under the impression from that girl in the states that got arrested that downloading wasn't illegal, but it was the sharing the downloaded files that is.

It makes sense, they sniff out whats in your shared folder. As soon as I have downloaded something I move it to a different drive, but there are some people that have thousands of songs shared. They know no better.

I'm sure ISP's can see people downloading massive amounts of data like Films (few gig at a time) very rare for any other reason for downloading this much data except for illegal copied stuff.

Maybe things are being putt into place to montior the internet because it is becoming less and less a freedom of speech etc to stop these things in the future.

The problem now is for copy protection bodies is that Xbox Live is now offering film/TV downloads (and sky?) so people can now justify massive downloads!

This rises another problem in the ISP world of download caps!

Phew I thought I could hear the rat a tat tat of the po-po outside my door. Even though I've only done about 500megs of free fonts this month.
