im stuck needing help!!!

  mk1 clio 1.8rt
firstly hi all as i havnt really posted on here before... and i was wondering if i could have some help on what to do with my clio...

Its a 1993 1.8 8v rt (lowered 60, fox alloys sportex exhaust k+n etc)... the trouble is i dont see many of these around at all. I also heard a rumour there were only 1000 made (unsure tho). Anyway to the point, the head gasket has gone and it has done 114k now so its gettin a bit tired. i really dont want to part with it as i am 19 and i cant really insure a valver and i dont want to down grade. i am thinking of an engine transplant. But to do this i would like to get the 2 cars side by side as its easier. So out the window goes buying an engine on its own, so i'm thinking about goin to a scrap yard and finding a laguna 1.8rt with low milage and a good runner! would this work??? and possibly fitting a better gearbox for ratios like a laguna rti one.... please post me back with ur views and tell me what u would do in my position!? thanks
Pete

with what you spend fecking about it would be the extra money to buy an rsi (8v same as yours) and insurance would be thesame

for the 1.8 8v rt its £420 and the rsi is £1200 i checked it lastnite on confused.com i couldnt belive it
i suppose i could try and find a low milage rsi engine and change all the parts.

transplants woth the money if your cars not worth much and uve spent a lot on it and know what your doing to do all the work or most of it yourself.

if you shop about i bet you could get a 16v insured for less than a grand, and it will be worth it for the extra power

i do understand u guys but i have spent alot of money on this car and its not worth what id want for it! it would cost around £200 to do the headgasket myself or £500 in garage or i could see my mate at a scrapyard and prob get an engine for £40 and spend a few days fittin it

Confused.com is poo for quotes mate.

Try Admiral/Elephant/Bell Direct/Tesco/Directline.

Try also adding your mum, or some over 40 woman to the policy as a named driver, with you as the policy holder, I think a lower quote on a Valver would be more cost efficient, and bring a smile to you face.

Gotta draw the line on your car mate, and price + market value your looking at negative figures. Other option is to break your current car, if the condition is good you might be looking at a few bob at least.

Unless you have a crane or some specialist lifting kit mate you're outta luck, definitely need a few pairs of hands and some lifting equipment tbh.

but which engine would be best and what gearbox would fit? such as would a 16v gearbox fit my 1.8rt engine as at the moment its quick acceleration but s**t top end like 110-115 max

i can hire a crane for a few days from the local hire shop ive done it before we did a conversion on a citroen ax we fitted a pug 1.9 gti engine in a week... i went to college for 2 yrs and did my city and guilds in motor vehicle but got fed up lol

Just do the headgasket yourself if you're confident.

Top end? When are you ever going to actually need that?

  mk1 clio 1.8rt
yeah i know what u mean! i'll get myself into trouble! i think that is a good option to do the gasket myself i am confident i'm just on a bit of a tight budget! hence £40 engine cheaper but more work. Plus i did it once before on a r5 bought a second hand engine and it turned out the head was gone on that 2!

just do the head gasket or get rid you could always scrap it and take off all the parts you;ve put on it and get another mk1 and put them on?
