Immobiliser Issue

  Clio 2001 Grande
Hey, I bought my first car the other week, a mk2 ph1 1.2 clio in black :-D however the immobiliser light on the dashboard flashes continuously. The car starts first time and yet the light still flashes continously, anybody have an idea of what the problem is? Hopefully its not an expensive fix... Thanks

You sir have bought what we call a lemon!

Okay, not exactly a lemon but the light is flashing fast to say the key being used is not authorised to start the car as the code hasn't been recognised. This means either an elaborate wiring bypass has been done to remove starter and main power control function from the UCH or, my personal bet, the UCH and/or ECM have been decoded and they're having a checksum fight.

Does the remote keyfob actuate the central locking or do you have to use the lock in the door?

That doesn't sound good! What you just said has basically gone over my head, I don't know much about cars :p

The remote key fob allows me to unlock/lock all doors remotely with no problems and it starts with no problems just to clarify

Cheers

Oh no that's not good! haha, I'm not telling you where I live now lol

What shall I do then? Is there an easy fix? Is it worth fixing? Any advice?

Can't really say how difficult it would be to fix without seeing the vehicle. Deffo sounds like at least the ECM has been decoded to allow it it run the car and technically your insurance is void IF the car is stolen as the factory security isn't working.

Probably not worth the cost if i'm honest though as a second hand matched set is gonna cost you £120-180 then someones time fitting it all and swapping keys/locks about.

Yeah don't think that's worth the cost either, just hope it doesn't get stolen, may invest in one of them steering lock things.

Do you know how I can get the red light to stop flashing then? Take the LED bulb out of the circuit maybe, if its possible?

Thanks for you help

You will have to remove the clockset and de-solder the smd-led or flood the plastic socket that the led lives in with something like silicon.
