Servicing wise a few years ago there was a bit of an issue with dealers refusing to touch imports, but I think the government had a go at them and now most warranties cover the car no matter what country it was bought from. Knowing Renault though, they will probably still be a bit iffy about it!

If you are looking to get money off of list price and are worried about imports, I bought my car from a company who basically buy in bulk from a particular dealer and so manage to get massive savings. Only downside is that they have to register it before you and put delivery milage (@ 50 miles) on the clock and so you are technically the second owner. However this is offset by the 10% (might have been more, I cant remember!) saving that I got.

Renault will honour the full 3 yrs warranty on imports as long as they are imported from an EU country. The imports dont have Alarms, Window etchings, or a multidisk player. Apart from that there is no difference.

You may want to have a look at this letter Renault sent out. http://www.leemather.plus.com/stuff/rw.jpgLetter

My 172 was an import which I purchased from Motorpoint. I didnt have any problems with getting work done on it. When I traded it in I got about a grand less than I would have done for a UK car, but saved more when buying it.

The lack of an autochanger isnt anything to do with it being an import, they were removed as standard kit towards the end of 2003.

As has been said, no window etching, alarm, locking wheel nuts or AA cover. Other than that they are the same.
