Steering wheel on the wrong side is a big give away.

Does it have an alarm?
Locking wheelnuts?

No alarm is the biggest giveaway (as Day says), it also may not have window etching - mine didnt.

  Audi A3 TDI 170 B.E.

Has it Renault locking wheel nuts, as mine was a inport and didnt come with any. Have to buy your own!

Unless someone purposely had a Renault alarm fitted from a dealer..unusual though, I admit.

Check the dialface, does it only has "KM" or both Mile and KM?

Provide your VIN number to out mate here, they may be able to check for you.

I am from HK and it shown "Temperature Climate"

while on this subject....are there any reasons NOT to buy an imported 172?

none!! make sure its a bit cheaper though to make up for the 300 quid worth of bits it normally wouldnt have on though... its got to be from a eu country though to secure warrenty - apart from that, same car built in same factory!!

Well renault have refused to fix my broken hazard light switch because its an import, if i mail you the vin number can someone check it for me please and possible find out some info about it ?

i rung renault service and lets say they werent very helpful , just said it hadnt been imported through renault so it wont have a warranty under renault

my clio 172 came fully loaded aswell, 6 disc changer and that switch for the braking system . I am pissed off cos i didnt know it was an import

No reason not to buy an import!

Renault dealers must treat imports the same as UK cars - some European legislation AFAIK (but dont take that as 100% - Ive never had to take me imported 172 to a dealer *touches wood*).

As said already, an import costs approx £300 to make it identical to UK spec:
- alarm £250ish
- locking wheel nuts £25-30
- window etching £25

And as long as its an import from an EU country, itll have the same length of warranty as UK cars, although sometimes youve got to apply for it.

how old is it ?
as you only got a 3yr warranty on a new uk car any way. Most of them are out of warranty now (unless they are like 03 onwards etc)

^^^ I used Lees letter to apply for my warranty, but was told (in writing) that the car already had the full 3 years, despite being a France-sourced import

And, the last of the 172s were on 04 plates, but try telling insurance companies that! Most are convinced I must have a 182...

If you were sold an import as a UK car you will most likely have been over charged.

When I traded in my 03 Import 172 a couple of years ago I got around a grand less for it than if it had been a UK car.

You shouldnt have any trouble getting it fixed under warranty I wouldnt have thought... how much did you pay for the car?

  The Tube

Thats a bloody good price, I wouldnt feel too disheartened that its an import for that price!

If you phone around a few dealers you might get different answers on warranty work too.

Sounds to me like you got a good deal. It doesnt matter if its an import, and the price you paid sounds about right for an 03 import.

What colour is it? Just being nosey now.

If you had a import & renault did a recall on that model would you need to take it back to where you bought it to get it done? or would a renault dealer over here do it for you free of charge?

  Black 172

its got all the extras 6 disc changer etc and it has done 25k or nearly anyway, its metallic black. Plus in work for the man who owned it and i know it has been looked after so yeah i am pleased with the car, plus he has offered to pay for the switch cos he feels guilty cos he didnt know it was an import when he bough it

Nearest dealer regardless of origin I would of thought.
